The
factory of dreams
The
participation of the Spanish Academy and Nobel prizes for Literature
has been also present at the white history. Words haven’t only
played in the pitch, but have been able to arouse the presidents
and academicians of the Corporation’s interest.
Presidents
In
the 20th century, its presidents have been regular customers of
the stadium in order to see the Alfredo di Stéfano’s
wonderful moves, like for example Dámaso Alonso, or have
expressed in a literary way the great social anxiety his kidnapping
in Venezuela in 1962 caused in Spain, like in the poem by José
María Pemán “Romance del rapto blanco”.
And
more recently, Fernando Lázaro Carreter wrote several of
his articles of El dardo en la palabra about the correct use of
the language in mass media. He wrote these articles in the stadium,
after attending matches between the Real Madrid and the Zaragoza
team of football, in addition to the fact of maintaining a deep
friendship with Emilio Butragueño since his managerial days
in the Upper Council of Sports.
Academic
passion
Other
academicians have also showed a strong interest in football and
have dedicated lines to the Real Madrid or some of their idols.
It is the case of Luis María Anson, who evokes the days when
he bowled penalty kicks to Ricardo Zamora in the playground of the
El Pilar School; it is also the case of Monseñor Eijo Garay,
who got the ushers to indicate him the number of goals of the European
competitions during the celebration of plenary sessions or meetings;
of Wenceslao Fernández Flórez, who wrote several works
in order to reflect on the essence of football in the stadium, and
also to promote the sporting spirit as a way to ennoble the modern
daily life; of José García Nieto who has dedicated
poems to Jacinto Quincoces; of José Luis Sampedro who generates
fantastic situations in the field; of Antonio Tovar who was present
at the matches with assiduousness; and of Alonso Zamora Vicente
who parked his Seat six hundred car metaphysically by the door of
the stadium when there was competition.
The
Nobel Prize for Literature
The
case of Camilo José Cela is curious, Nobel prize for Literature
and author of the compilation based on stories Once cuentos de fútbol
For
the history of the white club, it is important his “Noventa
minutos de rebotica”, chronicle behind scenes of a match between
the Real Madrid and the Athletic Club from Bilbao in the fifties.
It
is a story from the innards of the stadium to the tier in a flashy
journey.
After
having obtained a pass for the changing rooms, he describes its
atmosphere of showers, seats, empty hangers…. He tells his
view of the work carried out by the coaches and finds the pure and
very hot coffee the footballers drink in the half-time specially
poetic.
He
also tells the social celebration of the authorities’ box or
the conversations with Pablo Hernández Coronado, one of the
main leaders Spanish football has had.
And
later, he throws into relief the clearest aspects by the supporters:
the apotheosis of the tiers, the contrast of feelings in the teams
due to the result.
The
story ends with the return to the changing rooms while the referee
dress himself in a normal way, like a normal citizen when the match
finishes and the security forces develop their work with the crowd
at the moment of leaving the stadium.
Epilogue
There
is no doubt about it, the pitches and the sports competitions not
only create emotions but they have become a point of intersection
for the lyric and epic literary genres of the modern society. They
have also become a field of shared hopes in order to make words
and literary creation play once dreams and feelings speak loudly.
